Because we feel it is important that you know how and where your donations to Helping Hands are spent, here is what was done last week:
Electric 6 families $ 2,428.89
Rent 36 families $ 30,760.03
ID’s 1 family $ 44.00
Total $ 33,232.92
When we pulled our trucks from St. Stephen’s several weeks ago (due to widespread theft of the donations left in the trucks) we were concerned that we would not have enough donations to stock our store. Would our limited hours of operation (Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) afford those who wanted to donate to us enough time to reach us?
Well, we didn’t have to worry for long. After just a few short days the donations came rolling in. When we saw the quality of the items being brought to us we were overjoyed! While volume-wise we are not getting near what we did with the trucks, the quality of the items far surpasses what we received in the past (probably because the items we receive now have not been pilfered).
So, if you have not visited our store in a while, now might be a good time to visit us again. Our store is open Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. We offer everything from clothing to housewares to tools to furniture. We have a huge selection of books (which we sell for $3/BAG!). We even sell breads and pastries donated to us by local grocery stores.
We are also resuming pickups on an extremely limited basis (due to lack of volunteers). You can no longer call our donation line and leave a message…at least not for now. Please follow the instructions listed below and someone will contact you if we can accommodate your request.
LIMITED RESIDENTIAL PICKUPS RESUME
We are now able to do limited residential pickups of large items/donations by prior appointment only. To request a pickup please send a complete set of pictured items to midlandhelpinghands@gmail.com.
Leave your name and phone number in the email and we will be in contact with you. Requests must be made via email only at that address.
